engagement photo …

#throwbackthursday

Here is my real engagement photo, circa 1993. Thank goodness engagement photo sessions are much more personal, interesting and plain entertaining.

1993 engagement photo engagement photo ...

Please laugh. I am. My favorite parts of this photo?

  • Love the pose. #zzzzzzzz
  • My teased bangs. I rocked some bangs.
  • Long red, fake nails.
  • The pearls. I was totally into huge, faux pearls.
  • My husband’s shirt. We’ll just label it #whatwereyouthinking
  • I LOVED this blazer. It was double breasted and classic.
  • Hair is naturally curly.
  • We look so young. And Fresh.

Your thoughts?

t.v. marriage proposals … let’s not

Can we just eliminate all live TV marriage proposals, especially ones done on morning talk shows? Let’s just not do it anymore and say we did.

Why?

  1. They are awkward, at best.
  2. Totally impersonal.
  3. There is usually not any type of intimate discussion, which is needed.
  4. It’s becoming as common as an engagement ring at the bottom of a champagne glass or put in a piece of cake. #yawn
  5. Nobody tears up anymore watching it … as bystanders we critique your body language and whether you received a kiss on the lips first or on the cheek.

Don’t believe me? Watch this one (thanks Sharon for sending it to me):

today show t.v. marriage proposals ... lets not

However, the flash mob marriage proposals are still going strong (they will soon be passe as well). But at least there is some music and dancers to look at. There are lots of them but here is one of our favorites. Mostly because it’s not so overly rehearsed, real singers (yay) and the bride is completely surprised. Bonus points that the word WIMPY was in the background the entire time.

Then there is the movie trailer marriage proposal. Super cute, loved the editing. Not sure how all the family and friends were “in the movie theatre” without her seeing them, but we’ll run with it. Huge points for being funny.

However, the winner-winner-chicken-dinner for the BEST marriage and engagement proposal goes to one of the first Live-Lip-Dub. It involved 60+ of their family and friends, which is so meaningful.

If you watch it without crying, you better call a doctor, your heart is missing.

What do you think? Love to hear your feedback and list any links to your favorite or most awkward marriage proposals!

so you’re engaged!

Congratulations on your engagement! This is such an exciting time for you. Trust me when I tell you the only other time in your life where you will receive such joy and attention will be when you have your first child. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

The immediate reaction to getting engaged is to text thirty of your besties to let them know the good news and to start shopping for your dress!

Whoa! I would suggest the following (and this advice will be brief):

1.  Discuss your wedding budget. Where will the money come from? Are both sets of parents helping? Please don’t book vendors until you know this magic number.

2.  Start a rough guest list. There will be four lists: bride, groom, bride’s family and groom’s family. This will give you a general idea of the number of potential guests you may need to accommodate before you start shopping for a ceremony and reception venue.

3.  Set a date, but keep it flexible if possible. If you don’t have your heart set on a particular date then you will be open to more possibilities for securing a location.

4.  Talk to each other and openly discuss your wedding. What’s the style you want to have? What do you want your guests to experience? What are the top three things that are important to each of you? Both of you speak up and be honest with each other. You both want to feel comfortable with the choices that you will be making as you move forward.

5.  Make an appointment with a wedding planner. I know this sounds self-indulgent … but really, this is the best time if you are going to hire a wedding planner. Starting from the beginning and using the experience and knowledge that a planner brings to the table will save you a lot of time and money in the long run.

Again congrats! We are so very happy for you and your journey to begin your lives together. Yes, we love weddings.

2nd annual kruckemeyer & cohn diamond dash

Dash for diamonds? Yes, please!

For a chance at love, Evansville couples use mobile gaming technology. Locals search for a diamond engagement ring using their cell phones.

The event is a high-tech scavenger hunt in which participants will be following clues sent to their cell phones, looking to win a $12,000 diamond engagement ring. The hunt promises to be a fun and fast paced adventure around downtown Evansville and a great activity for locals and tourists alike. We expect several hundred local couples will participate.

The deets:

What:  Approx 500 people will meet at Casino Aztar at 11am and run all over downtown Evansville solving clues sent via text message to their cell phones. They will race for about 2 hours, hoping to win the grand prize. The event will end at back at Casino Aztar where the after party will take place from 2pm-3:30pm. The winning team will be announced there.

Who:  The event is being hosted by Kruckemeyer & Cohn Jewelers

More info & event registration at: www.KandCDiamondDash.com

planning…forever events is not affiliated with this event, but wanted to let local Evansville brides and grooms know about it. Good luck and happy hunting.

Suggestion: with all that money saved with winning the diamonds, now you can afford a wedding planner. *hint* *hint*

Look how much fun they had in Chi-town with a similar event:

pretty engagement photos

We believe it should be a priority to get to know your photographer by investing in the engagement photos. It helps all of you relax and get to know each other (especially when many people have anxiety about having a camera in their face). Once you trust each other, the wedding day is a breeze.

For your visual fun, check out our clients Whitney + Tyson who are tying the knot on August 7th later this year. We also are doing the design and decor and cannot wait for their wedding day.
