your wedding venue, a blank canvas…
Have you been looking for a venue for your reception? In rural areas, there are a lot of venues such as county buildings or community centers. They are big enough to handle your large guest list, but lack in the aesthetics.
We regard venues like this like a blank canvas and a challenge. And we adore challenges. Take a look at the real wedding reception of Natalie + Roddy, who married in October 2008. She chose the Posey County 4H Community Center for the wedding reception. it was a convenient location based on the ceremony and it kept to the West Side of town, which was important to our clients and their guests. Our clients hired us for full service planning and design/decor.
The Venue:
Let’s take a look at the space:

A large room, definitely! Challenges: metal chairs, cement floor and roll up doors. Venue Coordinator told us that most clients put their head table on the stage. Dually noted, and we won’t be doing that.

This is a side viewpoint of the room. Bride is worried about those walls. We are not.

On the far end, across from the stage there is a large roll up door. Can you say camouflage?
Okay, so we have our work cut out for us! Luckily, our bride Natalie has exquisite tastes and has put together a collage of colors and ideas she’s likes. We LOVE that because it helps us know her style and tastes.
Because Roddy liked brown, we determined that would be our base color. Tomorrow we’ll show you how we begun to transform the room, into a breathtaking, romantic reception. Trust me. You will be amazed!

easy tips on reducing your guest list

We all know the quickest way to reduce your budget, is to reduce your guest list. In this region, the average wedding is approximately 250 guests. In areas like Jasper, Indiana the guest list could be 500-700 people! Large families = big weddings!
If you have already gone through the excruciating process of selecting your guests and cannot seem to delete any names off the paper, here are a few tips:
- DO NOT send out save-the-dates. If guests don’t know your wedding date in advance, they can’t reschedule their lives to attend!
- Pick a holiday weekend for your wedding. There are always conflicts when it comes to holidays and guests may need to choose visiting family for graduation or going out of town over your wedding.
- Choose a Friday or Sunday for your wedding date. Perhaps choosing a less traditional day of the week may make it more difficult for the majority of guests to attend.
- Destination wedding! Get out of Dodge and fly away to a beautiful destination for your wedding!

breaking news: executive inn, evansville
Many of you may have heard earlier this week that the Executive Inn in Evansville had their liquor license expire due to back local and state taxes. I’ve received phone calls from clients of Executive Inn asking if we have heard any other information. I spoke with a representative from Executive just yesterday and she informed me that they would be able to honor any events that would be needing a liquor license by bringing in external bar services. Then just a few minutes ago:
Today the late breaking news from Channel 14:
Evansville hotel under new ownership

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) – The Executive Inn hotel in downtown Evansville announced that it is now under the ownership of Mutual Hospitality Management Company of Chicago. The 470-room Executive Inn is Indiana’s third largest hotel and conference center.
If you have an event scheduled at Executive Inn, please do not panic. I’m sure the event coordinator will be able to answer your questions. I hope this will be a positive move for Executive Inn as we’ve had the pleasure of holding some beautiful weddings there (our last one was just three weeks ago). In fact, we’ll be on location tomorrow for several consults.
Again, please don’t think the worst, we know it’s hard to do considering the Executive Inn in Owensboro (they are owned by different companies). Be patient as I’m sure their staff will be fielding a lot of questions/telephone calls.
